C1D: Luke O' Connor (Oxford Brookes Show, 2010)

I find the flags of nations to be useful as a child for identifying with our past as a nation, an empire owner, a measure of the colouring of the map as a red phase of expansion and soon to be retraction.

Consider that we in Maidenhead hold highly, the union jack and with it Doric colomns, and indeed some the gnomes of the underhill that makes the Lord of the Rings. Our participation a reminder that the colours of blood and toil are marked as a flag of endeavour to cover the globe.

Of course hopskotch is also a good communicating device.

The ends to flags are the attachment of conquest, the sign of the times, the fears of retrenchment, and the defence of the undefenceable. The mark of the flag to identify with all times in the UK, and all people's views, of course this is not always for the positive, the peaceful, and indeed the thinkers with foresight but also the manipulated, the fearful and those open to propaganda.

Our standards is our measure, our work, our invention, our business, our culture in a cosmopolitan society, our represetative of the nation state. It is a reminder that to support Britain in sport or whatever the flag is an easy symbol to count on support.

It is not always used for the right purpose in my eyes but there we have it. Without aggression and pro-our endeavours to remain an identity in the world economy we must identify with something, the prime minister, the nation state and indeed ourselves.

Good luck with the synopsis on flags.
